Community Awareness Program for Immigrants (CAPI)


Why
Moving into a new community can be overwhelming and difficult. CAPI helps newly arrived immigrants understand the laws and rights of Canadian citizens.

What

  • Monthly workshops with guest speakers to learn about:
    - landlord and tenant rights
    - tax laws
    - how to prepare your own tax returns
    - family and domestic violence law
    - labour standards
    - immigration issues
    - traffic violations
    - theft under $5,000
  • One-on-one meetings to discuss:
    - government procedures and applications
    - Employment Insurance
    - social assistance
    - Health Care
    - subsidies
    - immigration forms
While participating in a workshop you may also receive:
  • food
  • transportation
  • babysitting costs
