Prison Community Outreach Team
Why
Acting as community case managers, the PCO Team works with clients and service providers to ensure a seamless system of support for women transitioning from prison to the community and at-risk women. Informed by the teachings of the medicine wheel, PCO Workers assess each individual woman's needs, help them gain access to basic necessities, encourage and sometime facilitate relationships with other service providers, and support the women on their journey toward physical, emotional, spiritual and mental well-being.
What
- Assistance accessing materials and services to meet basic needs (including safe housing, food and clothing)
- Advocacy on behalf of clients to receive services from government and other agencies
- Pre-release planning
- Bail and fines support
- Help getting enrolled in self-improvement programs
- Connections to other service providers in the community
- Access to referrals for medical treatment
- Help getting government-issued identification
- Referrals for crisis counselling
Where
The Prison Community Outreach Team visits Calgary Remand Centre twice a week and Lethbridge Correctional Centre twice a month. PCO Workers are also available at our main office: Suite 600, 1509 Center Street SW, Calgary.
